Truthify
To correct untruths
It’s become much more difficult in recent years to distinguish truth from misinformation or disinformation. The difference between the last two is intent. Disinformation is deliberately circulated as though it were truth with the intent of misleading others—typically for self-serving purposes. Disinformation is used to betray us as citizens. Truthify’s goal is to dispel disinformation by promoting relevant facts and ensuring an educated voting population.
Many of the sources we’ve trusted in the past to keep us informed about what’s happening in our area, our nation, or our world are no longer trustworthy. While most media aren’t deliberately spreading untruths, many misinform by withholding or misinterpreting the full extent or context of what they report.
That’s where Truthify comes in—we’ll correct misinformation for voters. We represent the views of a local chapter of the national grassroots movement Indivisible that aims to protect American democracy. Members of Indivisible 1431, in communities along Texas Highway 1431, are committed to democratic activism. Truthify aims to support the chapter’s activities by promoting truth and providing context to current events.
Indivisible 1431 actively opposes the fascist policies and injustices perpetrated by the Trump administration. Many members participated in recent nationally organized events like the “Hands Off” and “No Kings” protests at the Texas state capitol. Some have participated in “Tesla Takedowns” all around the Austin area. Others have organized or joined town halls for absent legislators.
On June 28, the group organized a rally and march to “Protect the Rule of Law.” The event was triggered by the many instances of the current Trump administration ignoring laws that didn’t serve themselves, unconstitutionally denying due process to ICE detainees, and abridging the civil rights of both citizens and noncitizens.
The rally included speakers Mike Killalea, the Indivisible 1431 Chair, Vikki Goodwin, a current Texas State Representative and candidate for Texas Lieutenant Governor, the Williamson County Democratic Party Chair Kim Gilby, and retired constitutional law professor Dr. John Ray. At least 150 enthusiastic members and citizens joined the rally and marched with us around the Georgetown courthouse.
Whenever Truthify recognizes conspiracy theories, untruths, and misinformation making the rounds, we’ll do our best to dispel them. Look for us to research and present authentic information, with trustworthy sources wherever possible.
